BP
BP is one of the largest integrated oil companies in the world, with an estimated global market share of around 3% of oil & gas production and 4% of refining capacity in the major global markets in which we operate.
After a brief presence in 1965, our recent history in Colombia dates back to 1986 when we farmed into the Santiago de las Atalayas association contract. Our main activity in Colombia is the upstream, concentrated in operating the Cusiana and Cupiagua complex. Discovered by BP in 1991 and 1993 respectively a few years after we arrived, those fields combined constitute the country’s major oil find to date, and are located in the eastern department of Casanare, 200 kilometers from Colombian capital city, Bogotá.
Café de Colombia
The National Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia is a nonprofit and nonpolitical cooperative that tries to stabilize the market for Colombian coffee and undertakes research, social assistance and promotion programs on behalf of the small, independent farmers.
With the supervision of the Colombian government and supported by a tax on coffee exports, the Federation has succeeded in protecting the cafeteros against falling coffee prices. When prices fall below an established minimum, the Federation steps in and buys the crop, storing it in central locations and putting it on the world market in times of shortage. This guarantees the cafetero a steady income, yet allows him to sell his coffee on the open market when prices rise above the Federation minimum.
